Children want to grow and they are always learning. We don't teach them, but we guide them by following their lead. My goal is to take the natural desire of the child and spin it into an immersive education through the natural world, social world, and personal world.
An example could be a child who is in love with Percy Jackson and the Greek Heroes. They do nothing else but talk about the pantheon of God's and imagine they are wielding lightning bolts at their dog or cat. This is a normal moment in time. What you have in front of you is an opportunity to take it one step further and increase their learning. How? By looking the lens of the natural world we might want to pull out a map of Greece and the surrounding area. We could map events on a timeline and color and shade how they have happend.
We could pose questions such as, "well not everyone could be a Percy Jackson, but there were a lot of traders who might have seen amazing events unfold!" The child may start to formulate curiosity about the Ancient Greek's and want to research more. They might look up the currency, ancient city states, and look at the occupations. They might get a group of friends together and create characters and play those characters through an epic tale. One of them, or a Game Master (GM), could fashion a story that highlights the culture, natural environment, and the personal growth of the child. Challenges could be simple arithematic or language challenges. We could create cards of currency exchange or lamenate pictures of certain landmarks to fully immerse themselves in the journey while practicing skills we use today.
Through leading questions the child will research about the era and become a subject matter expert while having fun. What a beauty to behold.
Please note that this is package is standard for 2-6 players.
Designed for 10 hours worth of content. Each of the column below is designed for atleast 2 hours each. The last 2 hours is for play!
Looking at the personal world of each character is a great way for children to look at themselves. What are their values? How do they behave? What areas do they want to improve in and where do they stand tall and proud? How do they fit into the story?
What was the world like in ancient times? Fortunatley we have books and the internet to give us a plethora of information. But for them to "know" we utilize or senses, hands, heart, and mind to understand the world we are viewing. What does culture create for the story?
The natural world is vast and each culture is connected to it's natural environment. Through map making we have a chance to look at the environment and how cities were built while practicing our fine motor skills. We get to beautify the world and make it come to life through a story.
Children are invited to create their own system of play or model it off of another system. Do they use dice, cards, coins, or all three? What points matter to them and connect to their character, culture, map, and story?
A one shot event consists of a short session with no real story base outside of action! Picture these like an episode of a childs tv show. You don't necessarily have to watch the other episodes to know what is going on. An example would be if you see The Mystery Machine you know their solving a case. You don't need to know what happened in the episodes beforehand. This is great for child and adult parties, family game night, or a new adventure for you and your roommates. Regardless I'm sure we can make a fun afternoon!
Please note that I can run a session with 2-6 players.
For a weekend get together, birthday party, or any event that fits your need.
Can be for ages as young as six. Mixed ages is a great opportunity as well!
2 hours of designated story play. If we need more time to learn how to play then no worries we can add an extra hour in.
Prepare via email and online reading. We can build characters, understand the game, or talk about mechanics and the adventure.
D&D 5e and Kids on Bikes are my familiar systems. But I'm also ready to learn a new one at any time!
